In the summer and fall of 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Jennifer Bett Communications (JBC), and I feel so lucky to have worked alongside such a passionate, supportive, and hardworking group of women. Their guidance and mentorship taught me so much about the field of public relations, and they truly made me feel like a part of the team. While working in the Social Impact division, I had the chance to work with a diverse range of clients, from a groundbreaking IVF firm to a venture capital company dedicated to funding female entrepreneurs. JBC’s ability to amplify brands that are making a real difference continues to inspire me every day. I gained hands-on experience, from brainstorming creative pitch ideas to developing media lists, and learned how PR is all about building connections and creating narratives that resonate. Most of all, I discovered how powerful communications can be in helping brands connect with their communities in ways that inspire, inform, and create lasting impact.

I’m so excited to present to you some of the things I learned during my time at the agency!

A big thank you JBC for everything.

Mock PR Strategy for Client Wondermind: An Internship Project

At JBC, each internship round culminates in a mock public relations campaign for an existing client. This project, which must include a prospective client, a potential event of our choice, and suggested publications likely to cover the campaign, is designed to demonstrate the skills we've honed, such as trend forecasting, pitch writing, narrative development, and more.

For my assignment, I drew inspiration from the increasing media coverage of familial and gender divisions, especially with the upcoming presidential election and the growing divide among genders in younger generations. Noticing the rising popularity of run clubs around this time, I combined these elements to craft a narrative to boost Wondermind's media visibility. Below, you'll find a presentation with further details and research!

Mock PR Strategy for Client Her First 100K: An Internship Project

At JBC, each internship round culminates in a mock public relations campaign for an existing client. This project, which must include a prospective client, a potential event of our choice, and suggested publications likely to cover the campaign, is designed to demonstrate the skills we've honed, such as trend forecasting, pitch writing, narrative development, and more. This was my second internship project at the agency.

I was inspired to create this campaign by a statistic I encountered while working with a venture capital client: only 3% of VC funding goes to women-founded startups, which shrinks even further when considering the overall number of women in the field. Through my research, I also noticed a growing trend in narratives highlighting women's empowerment, such as recent articles on the incredible Gisèle Pelicot and a feature on Elle about #MeToo movement founder Tarana Burke.

From this foundation, I developed a niche yet powerful narrative, feeling there was no better fit than our client HerFirst100k. This campaign is something I'm deeply passionate about, and having the creative freedom to conceptualize and work on it, even as a mock project, only deepened my love for PR.

During my time at JBC, we were given opportunities to draft content for clients, including Q&As and insightful narrative pieces. This particular piece focuses on Mandy Teefey, founder of Wondermind and mother of Selena Gomez. I ghostwrote the questions, which were then edited and approved before publication.
